The 2021 Internal Scholars
Melisah 381
Melisah

Future Aircraft Engineer – Melisah is the second born in a family of six and lives with her father in Murisa Park. Her mother lives in Hwedza where she is a small-scale farmer. Her father is a pedlar, mainly operating in Chitungwiza. Melisah loves singing and playing football. Despite the financial difficulties faced by Melisah’s parents in supporting both her and her siblings, Melissa remains optimistic about her dream of one day becoming an aircraft engineer. Melisah is attending school at Gateway High School.

Leonard

Future Medical Doctor – Leonard is the third born in a family of four. He lives in Tynwald with his parents. Both are primary school teachers who supplement the family’s income through farming. Leonard is passionate about peer guidance and counselling and was involved in the Youth Against AIDS club where he was a peer educator. He is an ambitious individual who wishes to one day start a Biotechnology research company. Leonard is attending school at Hellenic Academy.

Kudakwashe

Future Medical Doctor – Kudakwashe is the third child in a family of five. He lives with his parents and two younger siblings in Zengeza 2. His father is a self-employed carpenter and his mother a fruit and vegetable vendor. Kudakwashe is an honest, hardworking boy who is willing to offer a helping hand when he can. He was involved in school clubs such as Leadership Experiences, Media Club and LEO Club. He is also a gifted rugby player. He is passionate about helping other people and wants to be a doctor. Kudakwashe is studying at Gateway High School.

David 362
David

Future Medical Doctor – David is the first born in a family of three and lives in Glen View 3. He was raised by his grandparents after his parents divorced when he was three. In 2020, his grandmother died after having a stroke and sadly his grandfather soon passed away as well. He now lives with his father and stepmother. David is a competent, disciplined young man who is constantly seeking improvement in all he does. He was involved in chess and tennis at his former school and aspires to be a future medical doctor. He is studying at St George’s College.

Rejoice

Future Neurosurgeon – Rejoice is the last born in a family of two. She lives in Chitungwiza with her parents and older sibling. Her father is a police officer and her mother a housewife. Rejoice is an ambitious young woman who wants to impact her community by one day starting sci-tech hub that will create opportunities for local people. She wants to be a neurosurgeon in the future. Rejoice is studying at Hellenic Academy.

Elias

Future Neurosurgeon – Elias is the middle child in a family of three. He lives in Masvingo with his parents, two sisters and cousin. His mother is a primary school teacher and his father a subsistence farmer. Elias is an ambitious individual who wishes to make a huge impact in the health system of Zimbabwe. He was involved in the Youth Alive club and was nominated as a peer educator. He aspires to be a neurosurgeon and one day open a surgery in his area. Elias is studying at Hellenic Academy.

Nyasha

Future Software Engineer – Nyasha lives in Glendale and is the first born in a family of five. Her parents are both high school teachers. They run a home poultry project to supplement the family’s income. Motivated by the biographies of Bill Gates and Jack Ma, Nyasha aspires to be a software engineer. Her father has been a great pillar in her pursuit of this dream by teaching her programming languages such as C++. She hopes to one day make Africa a more tech-savvy continent. Nyasha is studying at St George’s College.

Munashe

Future Anaesthesiologist – Munashe is the second born in a family of four. He lives with his family in Zengeza 5. His mother is a self-employed hair dresser and his father runs a small tuck shop at home. After his mother failed to get medical attention due to an ongoing strike, Munashe became determined to improve the health standards in Zimbabwe and the world at large. To achieve this goal, he wants to become an anaesthesiologist. Munashe is studying at Gateway High School.

Nyasha

Future Computer Engineer – Nyasha is an only child who lives with her mother in Gweru, who is an administrator at a security firm. She studied at Thornhill High School where she did athletics and was part of the Youth Alive Club. Nyasha is a hardworking, self-driven young lady who wishes to bring great innovations to the world in the field of Computer Science. She also wants to be an entrepreneur. Nyasha is studying at St. George’s College.

Tawana 97
Tawananyasha

Future Neurosurgeon – Tawananyasha lives in Bloomingdale and is the first born in a family of two. His parents are both unemployed and do part-time domestic work to earn a living. The income is hardly enough to put food on the table, let alone pay for school fees. Despite poor lighting at home which makes studying at night difficult, Tawananyasha persevered with his studies and hopes to one day improve the living conditions of his family. Tawana was very involved in his former school’s extracurricular activities, participating in various clubs including Chess, Debate and Quiz. After finishing his A-levels, Tawana wishes to study medicine. His hope is to one day counter the effects of Down’s Syndrome.
Tawananyasha is studying at St George’s College.

Proceed

Future Cardiologist – Proceed is the last born in a family of five. He lives in Manyame Park with his elder brother. His father, who lives in South Africa, is a self-employed carpenter while his mother is a subsistence farmer. She lives in Buhera. His father’s income is not sufficient to pay his fees and that of his siblings. During weekends and some school days Proceed goes to the market to sell fruits in order to supplement the family’s income. Proceed wants to make an impact in his community by one day becoming a cardiologist.

Ruva 409
Ruvarashe

Future Doctor – Ruvarashe is the second child in a family of 3. She lives with her mother and siblings in Chitungwiza. Her father is a bus driver in South Africa. In addition to supporting his own family, Ruvarashe’s father also looks after his sisters’ children who live in the rural areas. The heavy strain on his income makes it almost impossible for Ruvarashe to attend A’level without external financial support. Motivated by her circumstances, Ruvarashe aspires to one day start a scholarship fund to help underprivileged students in her community, whilst being a doctor by profession.

Sean

Future Zoologist – Sean is the first born in a family of three. He grew up with his aunt while his parents were working in South Africa. He only started living with them when he was in form one, after they returned. As a result of the parents’ absence in his childhood, Sean never grew close to his father and the two are worlds apart. Sean has a passion for animals and enjoys being around them. During his free time he loves reading wildlife books. His aspiration is to one day become a zoologist.

Future Engineer – Staford is the second born in a family of five. He lives with his parents, siblings and two cousins in Epworth. His mother is a vendor while his father is a self-employed tailor. Staford’s sister dropped out of school after her O levels because of financial hardships; it is Staford’s worst nightmare to experience the same fate which has been made even more likely by the Corona virus pandemic. Staford is a disciplined, determined young man who not only focuses on his academics but also extracurricular activities. He was actively involved in chess, rugby and maths quiz. Staford is passionate about mathematics and science subjects as these will help him achieve his dream of becoming an engineer.

Takudzwa

Future Electronic Engineer – Takudzwa is the third born in a family of four. He lives in Glenview 3 with his family. His father is unemployed and his mother is a fashion designer. Takudzwa’s parents are advanced in age and finding it much harder to put food on the table. To supplement the family’s income, Takudzwa sells eats at school during break and lunch time. He has an entrepreneurial mind and is not ashamed of using it. Takudzwa played chess and korfball, in which he was the vice-captain.

Tatenda

Future Mechanical Engineer – Tatenda has two elder siblings and lives in Highfield. She grew up with her mother after her father left when she was born. In order to cater for the family’s needs, Tatenda’s mother worked multiple jobs at a time. Tatenda enjoys working out Physics and Maths problems and was involved in chess and Scripture Union. Tatenda is keen on investing in young people’s ideas as she believes they have the potential to change the world. She aspires to be a mechanical engineer.

Tinotenda

Future Chemical Engineer – Tinotenda has two full and five half siblings. He lives in Mbare with his two full siblings as the others have grown up and moved out. Tinotenda’s mother is a self-employed tailor and his father is a retired primary school teacher. His father is the family’s main breadwinner, supporting it through his retirement funds while his mother chips in with the money she gets from her tailoring. Tinotenda is a disciplined, determined student with excellent leadership skills. He was the head boy of his secondary school.

Brian

Future Medical Chemist – Brian is the first born in a family of four. He lives in Mufakose with his aunt and three cousins. When he was in primary school, his parents divorced and his father remarried in South Africa. His mother paid for his school fees until she passed away when he was eleven. He then moved in with his aunt who operates a small tuckshop in Mufakose. Brian is very diligent in his academics and also interested in programming. He wants to venture into medical research and development where he hopes to leave a permanent mark.

Wisdom

Future Civil Engineer – Wisdom is the first born in a family of four. He lives in Gweru with his family. Wisdom’s father is a teacher in Mhondoro and his mother a self-employed tailor. Wisdom is a self-motivated hardworking young man who is enthusiastic of his school work and fully exploits his learning capacity. He is also into sports and was part of the rugby school team. Wisdom aspires to be a civil engineer and one day establish his own company.

Tinotenda 423
Tinotenda

Future Neurosurgeon – Tinotenda is the eldest in a family of three. She comes from a humble Christian family and they live in Zengeza 4. Her father is an accountant and her mother is a housewife. Tinotenda has brilliant leadership skills, being the captain of her school volleyball team and director of the Sunday School at her church. She is also actively involved in community service: visiting old people’s homes and doing clean up campaigns. Inspired by Ben Carson, her dream is to one day become a neurosurgeon.

Adelaide

Future Chartered Accountant – Adelaide lives in Chitungwiza and is the first born in a family of three. Her father is a fryer at Davipel Enterprises and her mother is a housewife. Despite being short, Adelaide is a good athlete and volleyball player. She loves working with figures and wishes to one day become a chartered accountant. Adelaide also aspires to form an organisation which will help tackle social issues such as early marriages and drug abuse.

Brighton 361
Brighton

Future Electrical Engineer – Brighton is second born in a family of four. His father is a motor mechanic and his mother is a farmer. He lives in Kuwadzana with his family. Brighton was involved in clubs such as Youth Against AIDS and First Aid where he was the chairperson. He also participated in many HIV and AIDS and cholera champaigns at school. Brighton has good leadership qualities and was chosen a junior prefect. He aspires to be an electrical engineer.

Faith 78
Faith

Future Doctor – Faith lives in Norton and is the only child in her family. Her parents died of kidney failure when she was still in primary school. She was then put in the care of her aunt who is also responsible for looking after her maternal grandparents. As a result, there is a heavy strain on her aunt’s income since many people depend on it. Faith aspires to be a doctor so that one day she can save the lives of many and prevent children from experiencing the pain of loss she went through. She is also interested in Computer Science and hopes to expand her knowledge in this field.

Future Civil Engineer – David is the last born in a family of nine. He lives in Mutoko with his parents who are both farmers. They are now advanced in age and finding it harder to bring food on the table therefore one of his brothers is responsible for paying his fees. However, he also has his own family and his job is low-paying. Despite financial hardships faced by his family, David is diligent and determined to achieve his dream of one day becoming a civil technical engineer, which will enable him to change his circumstances.

Mutimuri 453
Mutimuri

Future Aerospace Engineer – Mutimuri is the third born in a family of five. He lives with three of his siblings in Glenview. His mother is a self-employed tailor and his father is unemployed. His mother, the family’s breadwinner, has eyesight issues and therefore cannot tailor for long hours. She struggles to pay school fees for all four children. Mutimuri’s uncle pays for his fees. Mutimuri is an avid reader of books, which he uses to acquire many skills. During the Covid-19 lockdown he managed to learn web development, graphic designing, Python programming, among other things. He also exhibits excellent leadership skills, being president of the Science Club and vice president of the Zimbabwe United Nations Association Club. Mutimuri is interested in Psychology, Neuroscience and entrepreneurship, which he believes is the key to transforming the world.

Alessandro 441 1
Alessandro

Future Public Governor – Alessandro is the second born in a family of five. He lives in Mufakose with his mother and three siblings. His father passed away in a car accident when he was nine. He was the breadwinner therefore his absence left a huge hole in the family which had to be filled by Alessandro’s mother. Looking after five children on her own was not an easy task for her and the family had to endure severe financial difficulties. Alessandro is a gifted young man who once won a national poetry competition. He was also a junior MP of Mufakose Constituency, one of the youngest people to attain this position. He wants a career related to public governance and plans to major in Computer Science and minor in Social Science.
