Facebook Giving – Collections for Birthdays, Special Occasions and more

If you have a birthday or special occasion coming up and would like to set up a collection for Makomborero, Facebook Giving is a great way of doing this quickly and easily. Facebook’s reach means that it is easy to spread the word about Makomborero to friends and family all over the world and it is a great way for loved ones to contribute towards a cause you really believe in.

If you have a Facebook account, click this link and you can have a collection page set up in a couple of minutes and best of all, Makomborero will receive 100% of the donations.

Handy Tips for Collections

It can be hard to attract those initial donations so here are a couple of handy tips how to get things started:

  • Make sure your friends and family are aware of your Birthday campaign by using the share function and specifically sending them the link. This helps make them aware that it is a cause close to your heart.
  • Research has shown that people are much more likely to donate to collections, such as yours, if they see that there have been other donations already made. Do consider making a small donation yourself to start things off and remember you can make it anonymous, if you would prefer.

Giving by SMS

If you are in the UK, you can donate by SMS/Text to support Makomborero. Simply text MAKO and an amount:  2,5,10 or 20 pounds to 70085.

e.g. send MAKO 5 to 70085

Texts cost the donation amount e.g. £5 plus one standard rate message and you’ll be opting in to hear more about our work and fundraising via telephone and SMS. If you’d like to give £5 but do not wish to receive marketing communications, text MAKONOINFO 5 to 70085.

Payroll Giving

payroll give as you earn

Payroll Giving (also known as Give As You Earn or workplace giving) is a valuable, long term source of revenue for Makomborero, providing regular income to help us budget and plan ahead more effectively.

Not only is Payroll Giving really simple, but it’s also really tax effective. How come? Because your donation gets deducted before you pay the taxman. For instance, if you donate £5, only £4 comes out of your salary and the taxman pays the rest. And if you are a higher rate tax payer, a donation of £5 to Makomborero would only cost you £3!

So ask your employer or pension provider if they run a Payroll Giving scheme and if they do not, please ask them to set one up. There are a range of Give As You Earn providers and here is a list of UK agencies approved by the HMRC.

If you are based outside of the UK, do still check with your employer if they run a similar programme or even a donation matching scheme. If they do, you can contact Makomborero at info@makomborero.info for details of where to send the donations.

Fundraising at Work and Corporate Matching

If you have such a scheme where you work, please consider nominating Makomborero as the Charity of the Year. If you need any information or additional materials to support your application, please email us and we will look at ways we can help.

Also if your company offers corporate matching for any staff fundraising, please consider nominating Makomborero.

Makomborero never uses street collectors or asks for cash from its supporters. If you’d like to donate please use one of the methods listed on this page. They’re quick, easy and secure. If you notice someone fundraising for us and are not sure that they’re legitimate please email us so we can check them out. Thanks for your support!
