Acturis British 10k 2012

Anyone in central London early on Sunday 8th July could not have missed the thousands of runners queuing for the start of the British 10k 2012. This year’s race was the biggest to date. Acturis fielded 42 out of the estimated 30,000 competitors who ran.

Acturis first ran the British 10k in 2010 in support of the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID). We now run in support of Makomborero. I was taught by Mark during his A Levels at Gateway High in Harare, Zimbabwe.

When Mark moved back to Zimbabwe I kept up with him and his growing family via their blog, constantly impressed by both his and Laura’s vision and drive to help children from poor communities who’ve shown exceptional ability and commitment to their studies to complete their schooling and apply to university, something most of them never dreamed of.

Better education means a better life for these students, their families and their communities.

Competition is always fierce amongst the Acturis staff, both between individuals and overall. This year our fastest team member, Carl Barker (our Helpdesk Manager), completed the course in 42 minutes 56 seconds. I beat my personal best, coming in just under the hour, which I’m very proud of. Next year I hope to do even better!

This year we raised over £2,000 in sponsorship and donations. Many thanks to everyone who sponsored us and to the 42 runners for the hard work they put in to training the big day and the race itself.
