Student Stories – Ruvimbo

RuvimboThe first time I met Mr Albertyn was at my former school during 2012 August holiday. He was doing revision schools with several students from Makomborero Zimbabwe. I wondered what it would be like going to one of the best schools in Zimbabwe.

Applying for the scholarship was a milestone towards changing my life for the better. At my former school, there not enough resources for students to do science subjects. Personally, I did not have a clear vision of what I wanted to do in future. I believe Makomborero has been the breakthrough that has helped me get a clear vision of what I aspire to do in life.

Makomborero has not only provided me with a better education opportunity, but it has strengthened my character in a great number of ways. Being in the boarding house with fifteen other different characters was a challenge in my life. I have learned how to understand and live with different characters. This will help me in future, even as I go to University, to be able to work with different characters. To me, Makomborero is my second family and I am very grateful for that.

Another thing I have learnt from Makomborero are the ethos of responsibility and giving back to the community. Before, my life was all about counting the gifts that I received from other people but now I have been nurtured into a selfless and responsible citizen. I feel that a lot has been invested into me and it is my duty to use what I have learnt to help others.

RuvimboGoing to Hellenic Academy has made a significant difference to my life although it has been one with great challenges. It was a bit hard to adopt to the new environment but I am very grateful for the opportunity. I have made new friends and I have met very interesting characters that have been a true inspiration to my life.

The learning environment is very competitive but also flexible for a bit of fun. I have come to love it so much, such that it is going to be hard for me to part with it at the end of the year. It has helped me discover who I truly am as an individual. It has made me aware of my strengths and helped me work towards improving my weaknesses.

I am very grateful for the opportunity I have been given by Makomborero. A lot has been invested in me, educationally and very important, personally. I hope and pray that I will be able to use this to help the community from which I come from, especially uplifting the education system in my community. I believe with this goal in mind, the Makomborero family can really make an impact in this world.

Thank you Makomborero.
