Student Stories – Michael

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step .Getting Makomborero scholarship is that particular step. If not for Makomborero I had no hope of going any further than O’ level.

Michael 2I started my primary education at Gandamasungo Primary School in Hwedza. I had gone to Hwedza to live with my grandmother. I could not stay with my parents because they were having conflicts. They later divorced and my mother died in that same year. I lived with my grandma up to grade three. I left my rural home because my grandma had a heart attack and I had no one to look after me. I then came to live with my father and my step-mother in Chitungwiza. At first my father hated me because of the conflict he had with my mom but I managed to cope with the situation.

I continued my primary education at Tadzikamidzi Primary School where I became the senior prefect when I was in grade six. I attained four units at grade seven and went to Zengeza High School for my secondary education. I faced difficulties in paying school fees because my father had an unreliable source of income. I applied for Makomborero scholarship and by God’s grace, I got the scholarship. From Gandamasungo, I am now at St. George’s College and I hope God will help me achieve my goal – which is to become a doctor one day.
