Meet the staff – Robson

Tell us a little bit about yourself

My name is Robson. I am a married man and I have four children. I am the Makomborero gardener and caretaker at the UZ house which is also where the office is located.

What does a typical day at work look like for you?

A typical day at work – I start each day by checking if everything is in place at the property.  The main things that I do though are maintaining the vegetable garden, the flower beds and rockeries and mowing the lawn. This involves watering the plants and adding manure. I enjoy looking for flowers to add to the yard and selecting the right vegetables for each season.

What does it feel like to be part of the Makomborero team?

Being part of the Makomborero team comes as such an honour to me. This is particularly because of the wholesome relationships we share as a team. A good job is always commended and shown the appreciation that is due to it.

What would you say have been the highlights of your job so far?

There is so much room to play with my creativity and come up with my own customised solutions to problems. I also love that I am trusted to work at my own pace!

What are your hopes for the future of Makomborero?

This is a hard one for me! Actually, I would say everything is going as it should and I don’t have anything that I feel should be changed in the near future. I hope we can continue to uphold our good standards.

Wise words to young people?

My biggest concern with young people, especially in this age is the abuse and misuse of drugs and alcohol. I recommend all young people to concentrate as much as they can on their education and not allow anything to take them off track.

What do you do to unwind?

For me, it’s mainly through a good nap or just listening to my favourite genre of music, which happens to be Sungura.

Restaurant or Braai?

Soccer or music?

Driving cars or trucks?
