Meet the staff – Patricia

Tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Patricia and I am originally from Chipinge. I am the only girl in a family of four. I am the Housekeeper and Cook at the resource centre.

What does a typical workday look like for you?

Besides cooking which happens to be my passion, I also do basic cleaning like sweeping, mopping, washing dishtowels…the list goes on. I keep an eye on the resource centre and make sure that all is as it should be so that means making sure lights are switched off, windows are open in rooms, keeping the girl’s toilets sanitary and also making sure the place is always at it’s best presentation. I also do laundry from time to time like washing the students bedding sheets every two weeks.

What does it feel like to be part of the Makomborero team?

I often just thank God for affording me the opportunity to be part of this team. When I look at the things that Makomborero has in place for its employees that are rarely talked about in other settings, I delight for being part of this team. To be specific, the concern that Makomborero has for the health and welfare of whoever is part of it is to be greatly commended.

What would you say has been the highlights of your job so far?

I am fond of watching the students play different games together, it warms my heart. Sometimes I find myself joining in to the games without too much thought! I also really enjoyed the visit to Mbizi with the students where we got to see different forms of wildlife. It was such a relief from my often indoors life.

What are your hopes for the future of Makomborero?

If possible, to expand itself by also offering scholarships to high school students, even before they go for A level. Some bright students fail to go for high school after primary school and this turns out to be great talent that failed to find the right support.
