Meet our Three English Teachers

We are so excited to welcome these three lovely ladies Macy, Memory and Tessa who are giving up their time to teach English to our A-Level students. This is an essential part of how we nurture and educate both our Residential and Non-Residential students and we are grateful that these wonderful ladies share in that vision!

First up, meet Miss Macy Her main focus is Essay Writing.

Tell us a little bit about yourself

My name is Maslyne, and I am a teacher by profession. Teaching has always been more than a career for me-ifs a calling and a passion. I absolutely love working with young adults, guiding them to discover their potential and achieve their dreams. Every interaction with students brings a sense of fulfillment, knowing that I play a small part in shaping their future.

 

What made you want to volunteer at Makomborero Zimbabwe?

My decision to volunteer at Makomborero Zimbabwe was driven by my desire to give back to the community. Makomborero provides a unique opportunity to interact with extraordinary students from diverse backgrounds, each with their own stories of resilience and determination. It’s a privilege to support these bright young minds and help them on their journey toward academic and personal growth.

 

Why do you think it’s important for young Zimbabweans to learn the English language?

We live in a globalized world, often referred to as a ‘global village’ where different languages and cultures intersect. English has become a global language, opening doors to countless opportunities across the world. For young Zimbabweans, mastering the English language is not just a skill but a necessity. It equips them to communicate effectively, access educational and career opportunities, and participate in international conversations. Learning English broadens their horizons and gives them the tools to succeed in a competitive, interconnected world.

What advice would you give to others about volunteering in general?

To anyone considering volunteering, my advice is simple – embrace it wholeheartedly! Understand the impact of your contribution, no matter how small it seems. Never forget the joy that comes from giving back and the difference you can make in someone else’s life.

Tea. I’m definitely a tea lover

You’ll most likely find me with a good book

A mansion; I value comfort and space

Tell us a little bit about yourself

Hello! My name is Memory, and I am delighted and excited to join the
Makomborero Zimbabwe team as a volunteer teacher. I am a marketing specialist with a passion for education and empowering young minds. I am committed to creating engaging and inclusive learning environments.
As a wife and mother, the love and joy I receive from my family inspires me to be a better version of myself. Therefore, I always strive to give back to the community.

What made you want to volunteer at Makomborero Zimbabwe?

I was drawn to Makomborero Zimbabwe’s mission to provide quality education and support to disadvantaged students. As an educator, I believe that every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of their background. I am excited to contribute my skills and experience to help make a positive impact in the lives of these remarkable students.

Why do you think it’s important for young Zimbabweans to learn the English language?

English is a widely spoken language that opens doors to new opportunities both locally and globally. By learning English, young Zimbabweans can access better education, career prospects, and cultural exchange programs. It is essential for their personal and professional growth, and I am happy to play a role in helping them develop this valuable skill.

 

What advice would you give to others about volunteering in general?

Volunteering is a rewarding and fulfilling experience that allows you to make a positive impact while gaining new skills and perspectives. My advice would be to find a cause you are passionate about, be open­ minded and be willing to learn. Every hour counts and collective efforts can lead to significant change.

Beef has always been my favourite.

 

A long walk or a long nap?

A long walk works better for me

 

Buy a vineyard or buy a yacht?

Buy a vineyard obviously! I love my wine.

 

Last but not least is Miss Tessa. Her main focus is Conversational English.

Tell us a little bit about yourself

I am Tessa, an aspiring lecturer in the field of Sustainable Development. Currently studying towards a MPhil in Social Policy and Development.

What made you want to volunteer at Makomborero Zimbabwe?

I am passionate about imparting positive change in people’s lives and also passionate about education. So when i saw the advert about volunteering at Makomborero i couldn’t let the opportunity pass. Besides being a part of an amazing organization that is doing great things in the community i joined Makomborero because it was my chance to both impart positive change and also fulfill my passion of being an educator.

 

Why do you think it’s important for young Zimbabweans to learn the English language?

Learning English is crucial for young Zimbabweans to succeed global world as it is more of a Universal Language. It facilitates international communication, education, and career opportunities. Therefore boosting confidence and broadening perspectives.

 

What advice would you give to others about volunteering in general?

Volunteering is so fulfilling, its both rewarding to you as a person and to the recipient. I highly recommend people to at least give it a try, for in numbers we are bound to bring bigger positive changes in our communities.
