As we enter this round of recruiting for our 2026 A-Level Scholarship, I would like to take a moment to honour each student who has applied.
We received 745 application forms this year. It is a record number. In July 2025, we spent the whole of Saturday and Sunday one weekend, reading each and every form, holding space for each story. What a privilege and honour to be let into each student’s life. It was an incredibly hard process as we read and made decisions as all – every single one – of those students deserved assistance to fulfil their academic dreams and aspirations. So today, I would like to honour them! They are these brave, courageous warriors who have fought for their education, some with the support of their families, some without. Each one facing the harsh reality of life on the margins in Zimbabwe. So today, we honour each one of you, your families and guardians. You humble us and keep us fighting for a future where all can access the education and healthcare that everyone deserves, irrespective of their background.
Dear Applicant!
Thank you! Thank you for taking the time to complete our application form, share parts of your story with us and send up a little flag of hope. We know it can’t be easy applying for a scholarship that must feel so hard to attain but just your action in doing so speaks so deeply to us. You were brave, courageous and you are an incredible young person.
As we notify people this week if they have made our first round of testing please hold onto this – your story does not start or end with Makomborero. You might be facing the most difficult circumstances but you have been so brave. Each one of you have a gift (talent) you can share with the world that someone else could benefit from. Your story and life can bring hope to others just with what you have in you!
We so wish we could offer scholarships to all of you but thank you, thank you for the privilege of getting to know you just a little! Keep shining.
