WRITTEN BY MERCY
The new year has started well as we welcome Upper Sixes who were on holiday and Lower Sixes who have newly joined the Makomborero family.
Mrs A and the A-Level Boarding housemother Mrs Tambowoneyi had the privilege of meeting Residential Lower Sixth parents over tea. Parents had the opportunity to see the students’ home away from home for the next two years and to ask any questions. For Mrs A and Mrs Tambowoneyi, it was a pleasure to get to know the parents a little more.

SPOTLIGHT ON MAKANAKA
It’s a real pleasure to shine the spotlight Makanaka, studying Metallurgy and Material Science Engineering in Turkiye recently shared these words with us:
“I’m really grateful to Makomborero for changing my life and helping me grow into a better version of myself. I got exposed to opportunities I never thought would come my way, got put into places where I learned to be brave and believe that I’m capable of doing amazing things.
I’m confident that everything I learned from Makomborero will surely carry me through this exciting yet daunting stage of my life.”
Well done Makanaka! You continue to make us proud.

THE START OF PROJECTS
We have welcomed 15 eager students at our Mobile Science Lab for term 1 and 30 lovely mentees at the Girl Child Programme. The mentees have been selected across 3 schools and will journey with us until December 2026. The Mobile Science Lab students have also been chosen across 3 schools, and they will have 6 exciting sessions to look forward to including Physics, Biology and 3D Printing. We continue to be so grateful for both the Mobile Science Lab and Girl Child teams who have such an incredible impact on these young lives.
2026 GAPPIES – WELCOME ABOARD!
Please help us give a warm welcome to Bethany and Tawana who are joining our Makomborero team as 2026 Gap Year Interns. Both were awarded Non-Residential Scholarships at A-Level. They have hit the ground running with lots of training including a Basic First Aid Course. Already, they have fitted in so well with both students and staff and we are really looking forward to spending the next 11 months with them. Get to know more about them here.
WANT TO DONATE BUT NOT SURE WHAT TO GET?
If you would like to donate to Makomborero but you’re not quite sure what to get our students, why not visit our webshop? There are plenty of items to suit any budget and these items will make an amazing difference to our students.
Finally, in gratitude of your friendship throughout 2025 and in anticipation of your continued friendship throughout 2026, we leave you with this warm quote from Marcel Proust, ‘Let us be grateful to people who make us happy, they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.’
