Meet the staff – Tanatswa

Tell us a little bit about yourself

My name is Tanatswa and I am the first born in a family of three. I take myself as though I am neither outgoing nor reserved, I can be any of the two depending on the day. I’m also the male gap year intern at Makomborero Zimbabwe.

What does a typical day at work look like for you?

The type of job I do is best described as collaborative more than anything, as I work closely with Nicolle. We are also quite lucky to get to work both at the office and the resource centre week in week out. Not too many people have that privilege! At the resource centre, I am the pool guy, making sure the swimming pool is always clean. There are other tasks monitoring the library, making sure the first aid is in stock and cherry to the top, talking to students and helping them with university preparation and schoolwork. I am also the intermediary for instructions, concerns and requests between stuff and students. I also set up and maintain the tech gadgets we have at the centre.

What does it feel like to be part of the Makomborero team?

Being part of the Makomborero team is an honour in its own right. Being a gap year intern fresh from high school, the glimpse into the world of adulting and employment that Makomborero Zimbabwe has shown me is second to none. One can never imagine how much soft skills (highly sought after by employees and community) I have learnt over the short period of time I have been with the organization.

What are your hopes for the future of Makomborero?

My hope is to continue to see a Makomborero that not only yields book-smart students but also goes above and beyond in equipping students with the skills to make impact in their communities, love well and to dream big. A wise person once said, “If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough”
