Lisa comes from a family of four children. Her father died in 2004 and she has had to take care of her mother who has suffered from a debilitating illness over the last few years. She is a bright young lady who is quietly confident and a deep thinker. She has had to overcome the challenges of being ridiculed by male counterparts as she strived to do well in her academic studies. We really believe that she has so much untapped academic potential. She wants to provide a better future for her family and community in which she grew up in.

Nyashadzaishe K
Nyashadzaishe K

Nyashadzaishe is from a family of 2 boys and he lives with his mother who is a teacher at a government primary school. His father left the family and Zimbabwe and never returned when Nyasha was three years old and so his mother has been the sole provider for most of his life. His father passed away in May 2011. Nyashadzaishe really impressed us with his deep understanding of real life issues and did exceptionally well in all the scholarship testing. He feels that to be considered successful he would like to have provided for his family, raised children who are in a loving environment with access to excellent education. He sees the need to give back to his community and has a real vision to make Astrophysics available to all who are interested.

Pamela S

Pamela comes from a family of four and she is the first born. Her parents do not have any steady income and she believes that she is the one who can change the future of her family and provide the resources for her siblings to progress in their schooling. It is so refreshing to see a young lady who just loves Physics and believes that “her country needs her new and innovative ideas”. We believe that this scholarship will be the launching pad for Pamela, allowing her to “follow her dreams no matter what background you come from”.

Phillip M

Phillip is an orphan who lost his father when he was 2 years old and his mother when he was 12 years old. Phillip has moved around a lot since his parents passed away, to different family members and even completed his primary education in the rural areas. His high schooling has been very unsettled moving from one family member to another and moving schools too. He has big dreams and is determined that his past will not hinder his goals. He is a very gifted young man who has had to overcome overwhelming odds to get where he is today! This scholarship is quite literally life changing for him.

Collen
Collen G

Collen is a boy aged sixteen, who has achieved outstanding results during his school career. He comes from a family of five children. We were amazed as to how quickly Collen was able to win us over by just spending a little time talking to him about his goals and aspirations. He dreams of becoming the president of Zimbabwe and changing his nation. He longs for the day when he “no longer lives for survival and stability but can rather be in a position to support others who would want to achieve their goals in life”.

Tinotenda M
Tinotenda M

Tinotenda is a boy aged 17 and lives with his father who faces the financial burden of caring for nine children, which includes some children from his deceased younger brother. His mother lives in their rural home (Mhondoro Ngezi). We were impressed with his mature demeanour and the leadership roles he has undertaken, including being a Junior Member of Parliament. His mother is his role model as she has encouraged him to never give up, even when times were really hard.

University: McGill University, Canada with a full scholarship to study Engineering.

Blessing
Blessing M

Blessing comes from a family of three boys and his home is in the rural areas. He impressed us when we quizzed him about his life experiences and goals. He backed this up with impressive performances in all the testing and we really believe that he has huge potential to impact his community and is thus deserving of this scholarship. Blessing is a very driven young man, who wants to see his goals accomplished and people’s lives changed through the opportunities he has been given.

Taringana G

Taringana is from a family of 3 boys and has set his heart on becoming an Aviation Pilot. He believes that this scholarship will allow him to fulfil his potential and give him the platform to be able to help less privileged children and see them also achieve their goals. He is a gifted young man and his mother has been his inspiration as she has always encouraged him to keep working hard and hold onto the hope of making it to university and beyond.
